Luxor Sky Balloon’s published minimum age is six, and guests must be able to stand throughout the flight. Tell the team every child’s age and discuss adult supervision, boarding and the ability to follow the pilot’s instructions before paying. Reaching the age threshold does not automatically confirm an individual child’s acceptance.
Confirm each child’s eligibility before paying
Send the ages of the children when requesting a flight, rather than adding them only on the morning. Ask the team to confirm whether each traveler can be accepted for the planned product and what information it needs. Our minimum age is a company booking condition; it should not be described as a universal rule for every balloon operator.
Discuss any concern about understanding instructions, standing for the outing or entering and leaving the basket. Height and visibility are separate questions: being old enough to participate does not guarantee the same view as a taller adult. Ask the operator what is realistic without expecting someone to lift a child or improvise a viewing arrangement.
Explain the experience honestly
Talk through the sequence in simple terms: an early wake-up, transport, waiting while the balloon is prepared, a pilot briefing, the flight and the return. Mention that the burner can be loud and that everyone needs to stop taking photographs and listen when instructed. Avoid promising a silent ride, a specific view or a perfectly gentle landing.
Show your child a clear photograph of a real basket and balloon rather than only aerial landscape clips. Ask whether they actually want to participate. A reluctant child may prefer a ground activity, and deciding this before payment is much easier than facing distress at the launch area. Read the first-flight guide together if they like to know what happens next.
Make the early start manageable
Choose accommodation that works with your confirmed pickup plan and prepare clothes before bed. Arrange breakfast with your hotel or cruise reception rather than assuming it will be available when you return. Check whether any food or refreshment is included in the quoted product, and what can be carried with you.
Keep the morning after the flight realistic. A family that has been awake since before dawn may enjoy one carefully chosen temple more than a long list of stops. If you book a private ground tour afterwards, explain that the group includes children and discuss breaks, walking expectations and a flexible handover.
Ask about supervision and group arrangements
Tell the team the number of adults and children traveling together. If several families are booking, make clear who is responsible for each child and whether being on the same flight matters to your group. Do not assume that separate reservations will automatically be combined, or that a private vehicle guarantees one exclusive basket.
During the briefing, the accompanying adult should understand the instructions and ask for clarification before boarding if anything is unclear. This article cannot replace that briefing or supply a special landing technique for a child. Follow the pilot’s guidance for the actual basket and conditions.
Family prices and changes need a clear quote
Ask for the price of every traveler and the complete family total. Do not assume a child discount, a free place or the ability to share one paid position. Explain the ages before the quote is finalized and confirm whether any different arrangements affect the cost.
Also agree what happens if someone decides not to fly, becomes unwell or does not meet the participation requirements. That is different from an operator weather cancellation. For families with only one possible morning, knowing the cancellation conditions can be more valuable than chasing a small difference between headline prices.
A compact family checklist
- All ages disclosed and eligibility acknowledged.
- Children willing to participate and able to follow instructions.
- Responsible adults identified for the whole outing.
- Comfortable clothing, secure shoes and a manageable bag.
- Pickup, breakfast and post-flight plans agreed.
- Individual prices, total and cancellation conditions saved.
Send these details with your family booking request. If a child is not eligible or does not want to fly, ask about a separate ground plan instead of relying on an exception at the launch field.
Common questions
What is your minimum age?
Our published minimum age is six. The individual child must also meet the participation requirements and be accepted by the operator.
Are children automatically charged less?
No discount should be assumed. Ask for the price of each traveler and a written family total.
Can I lift my child for a better view?
Do not plan an improvised viewing arrangement. Ask the operator about visibility and follow the pilot’s instructions in the actual basket.
